Our method helps you slow down, reflect, reconnect with your inner compass and explore what’s next with greater authenticity and renewed purpose

The four steps of
our coaching method.

Conscious Downshift

Our journey together begins by slowing down to creating space to reconnect with your inner wisdom. Through thoughtful reflection, you'll engage your complete intelligence—analytical mind, embodied knowing, and emotional wisdom.

Identifying Patterns

Here we explore how inherited narratives and protective patterns have shaped your relationship with work and achievement. By bringing awareness to these influences, you create space for new possibilities to emerge. This isn't about rejection, but understanding what's ready to evolve.

Purposeful Exploration

With your refreshed sense of direction, you'll begin testing new ways of engaging with your work and life. Through carefully designed experiments, you'll learn to trust your inner compass while building momentum toward meaningful change.

Authentic Alignment

In this phase, you'll uncover what genuinely calls to you when external pressures and influences fall away. We'll illuminate where your natural abilities, inner wisdom, and authentic interests converge—revealing your unique contribution.

We'll help you
recalibrate your
inner compass to
cultivate a work life
that feels intentional,
authentic, and
energizing.

Who We Serve

The Downshift community includes founders, executives, investors, makers, and creators who sense they're standing at the threshold of something scary yet significant.

This might sound familiar if:
You've achieved meaningful success, yet sense there's something more important waiting to emerge in your life.
You're questioning whether the relentless pursuit of achievement is the path to your best work or deepest meaning.
You're curious about what is possible if you allow yourself to slow down, reflect, and dream about what could come next.
You're ready to explore what lies beyond the conventional definitions of achievement because you’ve been there, done that, and know that it is no longer the answer.

What Our Clients Say

“A few years ago I reached a point in my career where I lost my bearings and the path upward suddenly became less clear.  Steve was my sherpa through that difficult time of transition, helping me focus not on moving upward, but on moving forward in a more sustainable and authentic way. His guidance wasn't what I initially expected, but it was exactly what I needed.”

They helped me find a way to start, offered frameworks for exploration, and challenged me to deepen my self-awareness. The process resulted in my finding a sense of security and authenticity, and, surprisingly, discovering dimensions in my life that went beyond my career.”
Jess Hunt

“David has this incredible way of making you feel safe through it all. He’s not just focused on the business side—he really helped me grow as a person, too. Every session felt like a chance to reflect, get clear on my values, and figure out how to align them with my work. I always left our conversations feeling more grounded and ready to handle whatever came next.”
Maura McInerney-Rowley
Founder
“Steve helped me navigate a very tumultuous period where I shut down one company, went through the process of discovery on what I wanted to do next, and got me to an incredible place. Having him as a thought partner on the journey was an incredible unlock, and I highly recommend Steve to anyone going through a period of transition.”
Neil Parikh

David is the most special kind of coach. I don’t even know how to describe him to people. His ability to listen, REALLY listen, and ask thoughtful questions is unlike any coach I’ve ever worked with. I appreciated the ways he gently challenged me and the meditative practices he introduced me to. I’m coming out with a deeper awareness of the stories I tell myself, and an ability to see my parts with greater empathy. Working with David opened up a whole new world of self-discovery and growth for me. It was an absolute honor.”

Good to Know

Other questions you may have about Downshift’s coaching for ambitious professionals.
Who is your typical client?

Designed for diverse professionals who’ve tasted success or reached the top, yet long for deeper significance, our Downshifters include:

- Founders recovering from their last startup
- Executives searching for fulfillment beyond title
- Creators seeking a new stage
- Investors pondering what constitutes a truly meaningful life

We aim to work with partners who are self-aware, deeply curious, patient, and committed to the process. You are ready mentally and emotionally to do the inner and outer work required to navigate a transition.

What is the required commitment?

There are no long-term contracts, obligations, or large upfront payments. All we ask for is a mental and energetic commitment of at least three months. Most partners start to feel the positive effects of our sessions within the first month, but long-term progress largely depends on your commitment and attitude. Our hope is this initial commitment blossoms into a successful long-term relationship.

What are your fees?

It depends on the coach. We charge a monthly retainer rather than a "per session" fee. Our fees currently range from $1,000-$4,000/month. That said, we'll never let money get in the way and offer scholarships if there's a strong fit and desire to work together. The amount we charge is largely dependent upon your ability to pay. We believe it should be enough where you feel like you’re making a significant investment in yourself, but not so much that it causes stress and resentment.

How many clients do you work with?

We purposefully keep our practice small to provide tailored service. We usually work with 12-14 coaching partners at once.  That's why we view our initial conversations as a fit process rather than a sales process. And we expect for you to fully commit to the process and relationship.

What is your system or model?

We don't subscribe to a "one-sized fits all" or templatized approach to coaching. Context matters and is critical. While we draw on frameworks, practices and other resources when necessary, we believe you are inherently wise and resourceful to determine the best path forward. Our immediate goal is to help you develop new perspectives and approaches rather than providing just advice or answers. We tailor the approach based on your situation, challenges, experiences, cultural norms, values and knowledge.

How often do we meet?

We typically meet with each "coaching partner" twice per month. You can also text or email your coach at your convenience. We also make ourselves available for "spot coaching" if you need support in between sessions. Remember, this is a partnership. You can think of us as an extension of your personal board of directors. We're available when you need us, not just when we have time scheduled.

How long is a coaching session?

Coaching sessions typically last an hour, but sometimes go longer depending on your objectives and how much we're able to achieve in the allotted time.

What days and times do you coach?

This is depends on the coach. Generally, Monday through Thursday from 11am ET to 7pm ET. That said, we have flexibility if we need to work around your schedule, move things around or talk in a moments notice.

What is a typical session like?

A typical session has four phases. The first phase is a quick check in. This provides each of us an opportunity to share how we're showing up energetically and emotionally. After our check ins, we spend five minutes highlighting any key events, milestones and/or learnings since our last session. We then dive into the main topic(s) which takes the bulk of our time. Finally, we spend the last five minutes summarizing key take aways and next steps.

What happens after a session?

We send an email with detailed notes typically 12-48 hours after a session. These notes are structured in three sections — follow ups, questions for reflection, and a recap of the session. We maintain a coaching log in Notion so you can access the notes on demand and track our progress.

How do you help between sessions?

There are countless ways you can leverage us when we're not together. As I indicated above, you can always text or email us at your convenience. We also share curated books, articles and resources depending on your learning objectives. If you're not sure, just ask. We strive to be an expansion of your inner circle and active member of your personal board of directors. We will always aim to have a 24 hour response time. That said, if you have an emergency or a time sensitive deadline, we always encourage you to text us.

How quickly will I see results?

This varies from person to person. A number of partners have felt and seen the benefits during the very first session. That said, we expect you to feel results in one or two months. We should always know what success looks like and whether we are moving closer towards whatever that might be.
